A series of changes in Medicare plans have been made for next year. Know what they are now so you can make the best decisions for your plan during open enrollment.

Plan offerings

Carriers such as UnitedHealthcare, Cigna and Aetna have announced that changes to and elimination of certain Medicare Advantage plans could affect some beneficiaries.

RX drugs

Medicare has negotiated with prescription drug companies to lower the price of 10 drugs effective to be effective in 2026.

In addition, a $2,000 maximum out of pocket charge has been implemented. The coverage gap or donut hole has been eliminated. Insulin prices will decline and more vaccines will be covered.

Full transparency

Many Medicare enrollees are unaware of the services they can receive under the program. In a program that started in 2024, insurers must inform patients halfway through the year of what services they can still use in that calendar year.

Premiums and deductibles

According to provisions of the Social Security Act, the standard monthly Part B premium will be $185.00 in 2025, up from $174.70 in 2024.

Those with an annual income of more than $106,000 or joint filing of more than $212,000 will pay higher monthly rates for both Medicare Part B and Part D based on income shown on the 2023 tax return.

The 2025 Part B annual deductible will be $240, an increase of $14 from the 2024 annual deductible of $226.
